Who we are

Answerwise is a trading name of Reginald (Philip) Oates, a sole trader trading as PO Marketing, 5 Addison Way, Lytham St Annes, Lancashire FY8 2FL, United Kingdom. We provide an AI phone-answering service to trades and service businesses. Contact: philip@answerwise.co.uk. Registered with the Information Commissioner's Office as a data controller, registration number ZC238284.

If we contacted you about our service

We contact limited companies whose business contact details are published on their own listings, websites or the public Companies House register. We do this under the lawful basis of legitimate interests: offering a business service to trading businesses. We send one short text or a small number of emails, and we never make automated calls unless you have replied asking for one.

We hold your business name, the contact number or email we used, the name of a director where it appears on the public register, and a record of whether you replied. We keep this for 12 months, or delete it sooner if you ask.

To stop hearing from us, reply STOP to any text or email, or email philip@answerwise.co.uk. We act on it straight away.

If you are an Answerwise customer

We hold the details you give us to run the service: your name, business name, mobile number, email, trade, and payment details (held by Stripe, not by us). Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you. We keep these for the life of your subscription and for six years afterwards for tax records.

If you rang a business that uses Answerwise

When you call a business that uses our service, an automated assistant (AI) answers on their behalf. It tells you at the start that the call is recorded, and says it is an automated assistant if you ask. The call is recorded so that the business can act on what you said. The business you called is the data controller for your call. Answerwise processes the call on their instructions: we record it, transcribe it, and send them a summary. We keep recordings and transcripts for 30 days and then delete them. If you have a question about your call, contact the business you rang; if you cannot reach them, email us and we will help.

Who else sees data

We use these providers to run the service, each under a data processing agreement: ElevenLabs (voice AI, call handling and transcripts), Twilio (phone numbers, calls and texts), Stripe (payments), Google (email and spreadsheets), Zapier (automation), Netlify (this website). Some of these are based in the United States; transfers are covered by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to our use of it. Email philip@answerwise.co.uk. We respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Website measurement

We record anonymous counts of page visits and important button clicks, together with the campaign source in the web address. Our analytics record does not store names, email addresses, phone numbers or IP addresses.

The Trade Brief

If you choose to join The Trade Brief, we use the details you enter to send the requested checklist and weekly email. We record your consent, trade, town, optional business name, optional missed-call answer and the campaign source. We do not add cold-email contacts or people who merely download another guide. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying STOP, and we will stop the weekly emails.
