Purdy's PawsIllustrative call, Jo's with a dog
Hello, thanks for calling Purdy's Paws. Jo's with a dog at the moment, so I'm taking the details. Who's the appointment for?
Lovely. Can I take your name first?
Sarah.
It's Biscuit, he's a cockapoo. He needs a full groom.
Lovely. Has he been groomed before, and is he all right with the clippers and the dryer?
He's had a couple. Fine with both.
Great. Which two days would suit you best?
A minute later, on Jo's phone

Hear it now, no sign-up.

It answers in your business's name. If a caller would rather speak to a person, it takes their number and flags the call to you.

Ring it yourself. Nobody rings you back to sell you anything.

Groomers, hairdressers & beauty: ring it from your phone and pretend you're booking in, a dog groom, a cut and blow-dry, or a treatment, whatever fits.

Or press the button in the corner of this page and allow your microphone.

How it works

Three steps. You keep your own number.

1
Divert when you're with a client

Forward your calls to your Answerwise number when you're mid-appointment, or all the time. It's one setting on your phone.

2
It answers as your salon

"Thanks for calling Purdy's Paws." It takes the client's name and what they want: the dog's breed and whether it's been groomed before for a groomer, the service and whether they're new or existing for a hairdresser or beautician. Then it asks for two days that suit. If you're full, it offers the cancellation list.

3
You get a text and an email

Everything you need to confirm the slot and price, within a minute. You reply when the dryer's off.

It can't see your diary on the £39 plan, so it takes a booking request and your salon confirms by text. Booking straight into your diary can be set up on request.

Why Answerwise, not the others

There are a few call-answering services about.

Built for your trade, not "small businesses"

It asks about the dog, the breed and the clippers for a groomer, the treatment and patch test for a beautician, the cut and colour for a hairdresser. Not one script with your salon's name swapped in.

Ring it before you buy, no sign-up

The demo number above is the real thing. You ring it; nobody rings you back to sell you anything.

Plain about what it does

It answers in your business's name, takes the caller's details and passes them to you. It does not diagnose, quote, dispatch a tradesperson or promise attendance, and it never pretends to be a person.

A local number and a voice you choose, male or female

A UK number with your local area code where we can get one. A warm female voice comes as standard, and you can pick a different voice and accent if you prefer.

Three prices. Pick by how busy your phone is.

Plans include a monthly minute allowance. Standard setup included; custom phone-system work is quoted separately. No contract: I tell you before any extra minutes are charged. Cancel any time.

Try it free for 7 days, up to 40 minutes of calls. Cancel before day 8 and you pay nothing.

Need it to book appointments straight into your diary?

Busier salon, or more than one of you? £99 a month covers 300 minutes and sends the text to up to three people. £249 covers 800 minutes and can book into your diary on request. Email philip@answerwise.co.uk and I'll set it up.

Compare: Voco £49, Sophiie about £50, Gaffer £89 (prices checked September 2026). Ours is £39, and you can ring it before you pay a penny.

Questions people ask

Do I need to install anything?

No. It's one divert setting on your phone. We send you the exact steps for your network.

What happens if it doesn't understand?

It asks once more, then takes a message and flags the call so you know to ring back.

Is it a real person?

No. It's an automated assistant, and it says so if a caller asks. If someone would rather speak to a person, it takes their number and flags the call to you. Calls are recorded so you can listen back.

What if I'm busy all day?

Divert all your calls. You get every one as a text, so no booking's missed.

Can it book appointments?

It takes the details and two days that suit, and you confirm by text. Booking straight into your diary can be set up on request.

What if I go over 200 minutes?

Nobody is cut off mid-call. If you go over your minutes, I'll text you first. Extra minutes are 25p each, or we move you to the next plan. You are never charged without being told first.

Can I cancel?

Any time. There's no contract.

How is this different to a voicemail message?

A voicemail just says "leave a message." This actually asks what they're booking in for, the dog's breed for a groomer, the treatment for a beautician, cut and colour for a hairdresser, and which days suit, then texts you a proper booking request, not just a name and number. If you're full, it offers your cancellation list too. If a plain voicemail already gets you what you need, you don't need this — plenty do fine without it.
